Convincing Customers

by Sean Milea

Many people do not enjoy the prospect of having to write promotional copy to advertise their web sites. But all it takes to become good at writing such copy is common sense and a little bit of imagination. These tips will help you improve your writing style, so that you can write copy more quickly and promote your site more effectively.

The focus should be on the distinctiveness of the service the web page endorses. Avoid tedious chatter promoting the web site. The article's focus should not be on visiting the web site even though that is your eventual goal. Your focus must remain on the value of the offering, rather than simply providing a way to arrive at your site. You want the reader to understand the advantage they will receive when they ultimately reach their destination.

Choose your words carefully. People respond much more positively to polite and kind words rather than terse, abrupt or rude words. Remember, an invitation with the promise of great benefit is much more attractive than being directed to go somewhere because you must. You want customers that are open minded to what you are offering rather than defensive because they felt commanded.

Keep your messages short and to the point. No one likes to read extra long messages or articles when they can avoid it. Articles that deliver the right information and are to the point are typically chosen over long-winded articles with little information.

If you must write a long article, use a format that will make it less cumbersome for the reader. Being with an introduction, followed by the description and a closing that wraps up the subject. If necessary, use appropriate headings to help guide the reader. Each paragraph should lead into the next.

A great way to give your product a positive image is through reviews and testimonials. When potential customers read articles about people like them who liked your product, they are more likely to believe it, and to try your product, too.

The article should mention and highlight some of the features of the product, but the product shouldn't be the main focus. An ad masquerading as an article will be fairly transparent, and people will quickly dismiss it as propaganda. Instead, try writing the article about a real consumer's experience with using the aforementioned product or service.

Be sure to carefully select the audience you target, and write the article for those individuals. In doing this, you won't have to explain things that professionals would obviously know but the average person would not. Then, you will be able to focus on getting your point across and it will be easier to communicate.
