How To Build a Patio Without Knowing How

by Jessica R

You can build a patio for your home without even learning how to build a patio. When you go into any home improvement or garden store you will usually see that they carry something called 'walkway' stones.

Most of the time they come in a large variety of shapes, colors and sizes. To build a patio using these, and without pouring any cement at all, you just figure out how large you would want your patio.

For example, if you want a 100 square foot patio, you would want to pick up a hundred of these 'walkway' squares. They usually come in one foot squares. This is the easiest way to learn how to build a patio. Then you would dig your ground up and level it.

You can use a rake and a shovel for this. Use the rake to make the dirt nice and even and then set your stepping stones on the ground and line them up next to each other.

If you want to turn your patio into a perfect square, you will want to make ten rows of ten. Make sure to leave as little space as possible between the stones. Then stomp them down a bit into the dirt that you have raked up.

Make sure your stepping stones are nice and even. Then you will shovel your extra dirt on top of the squares. It doesn't matter if there's only a little left.

After you have spread the dirt over all of it as evenly as possible, go ahead and sweep it off the stones. This will help fill in any gaps or cracks in the squares. Voila! This is probably the fastest way to learn how to build a patio you will ever come across.
