An average-sized list with good quality is much more valuable than a long list with mediocre quality. Be choosy about your subscribers; if they don't intend to buy anything from you, they really don't belong on your list.
Skim the applicable laws. There are some tight stipulations on the e-mails that you send. Not keeping in line with the specified rules can result in fines, and what's worse, forfeiting your Internet business. If you need clarification about e-mail regulations, do some heavy-duty research yourself or run your questions by a lawyer. Doing business with a reputable and honest hosting company is almost always a better option than trying to do it yourself.
